Obtaining and Characterizing Thin Layers of Magnesium Doped Hydroxyapatite by Dip Coating Procedure

Abstract: A simple dip coating procedure was used to prepare the magnesium doped hydroxyapatite coatings. An adapted co-precipitation method was used in order to obtain a Ca25−xMgx(PO4)6(OH)2, 25MgHAp (xMg = 0.25) suspension for preparing the coatings. The stabilities of 25MgHAp suspensions were evaluated using ultrasound measurements, zeta potential (ZP), and dynamic light scattering (DLS). Using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) information at nanometric resolution regarding… Show more

“…The peaks associated to the FTIR spectrum of CTAB located in the range of 890–110 cm −1 could not be observed in the FTIR spectrum of HAp-CTAB composite due to broad bands present in this region and associated with PO 4 3− vibrations. The achieved results were in accordance with preceding studies [ 35 , 37 , 38 , 39 , 40 , 41 ] confirming the formation of the HAp-CTAB composite.…”

“…The stability of the 10Ce-HAp composite was evaluated through ultrasonic studies that were in agreement with previous studies [26][27][28]. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) investigations were conducted with a CM 20 (Philips FEI, Eindhoven, The Netherlands) equipped with a Lab6 instrument.…”

“…Furthermore, the surface morphology of the coatings was investigated by atomic force microscopy (AFM) with the aid of an NT-MDT NTEGRA Probe Nano Laboratory instrument (NT-MDT, Moscow, Russia), as previously reported in [31]. The data analysis of the 2D surface topographies, as well as the 3D representation of the AFM images, were performed with the aid of Gwyddion 2.55 software [32] In addition, the morphology of the surface coatings was studied by optical and metallographic microscopy as previously described in [33].…”
