“…Nevertheless, to our knowledge the in situ observational study on this topic is still scarce. To present an observational evidence of circulation‐induced variation, we revisit our field measurements in the northern SCS from August to September 2014 (see Figures 3a and 3b in J. Xu et al., 2020). This observational study shows the ISWs over three spring‐neap tidal cycles but lacks analysis of Kuroshio effect.…”

“…The instruments carried by the moorings generally functioned well, but CT sensors stopped working after 6 September 2014 due to the lack of power. Besides, Xu et al (2020) indicated that an anti-cyclonic eddy dominated the region of the mooring since mid-September 2014, which significantly affected the local wave properties at the DS station. To avoid the impacts of background currents, we selected fifteen ISWs during the spring tidal period from 00:00 UTC 8 August to 00:00 UTC 15 August as criteria to quantitatively evaluate the performance of sensitivity numerical experiments.…”

“…Internal solitary waves (ISWs), which are a kind of nonlinear internal wave, are ubiquitous in marginal sea areas [1,2]. The South China Sea (SCS) is one of the most important sea areas for the study of ISWs.…”
