Observation of symmetrical reflection sidebands in a silica suspended-core fiber Bragg grating

Abstract: Abstract:We have observed symmetrical sidebands in reflection from Bragg grating written in a silica suspended-core fiber, which are caused by longitudinal periodic refractive index modulation in the Ge-doped suspended-core fiber with a core diameter of ~1.3 µm. Our simulation shows that the effective refractive index of the guided mode varied by 0.023% along the fiber with a period of ~650 µm. The periodic index variation can lead to amplitude modulation of fiber Bragg gratings, which can be studied by observ… Show more

“…This mode is favorable if a predetermined form is required, such as for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine [37]. However, it may disturb its industrial/commercial application due to being time consuming and producing a low yield [43]. To overcome these hindrances, a fed-batch cultivation mode was proposed, which is a simple strategy used to enhance the yield to a proper level for commercialization and uses an alternative culture medium proposed by Shezad et al [9].…”

“…In this Letter, we continue from our previous study of Hi-Bi Ge-doped index-guiding PCF [16] to report on an ultrahigh birefringence index-guiding PCF with two large holes and a measured phase modal birefringence of ∼1.1 × 10 −2 . To our knowledge, this is the highest value for any microstructured fibers reported to date, and more than an order of magnitude higher than any solid core fibers previously demonstrated.…”

“…Initially, BC was synthesized through a static culture technique, where BC mats were produced with varying thickness. However, the fermentation was subjected to agitation techniques for which numerous reactors and fermenters were designed to enhance the production and satisfy the commercial demands [17–20]. In addition to its production, the physicochemical features of BC also vary to a great extent with culturing technique and this explains why different methods were applied to obtain BC with specific properties.…”
