Objective Evaluation Criteria for Shooting Quality of Stereo Cameras over Short Distance

Abstract: Abstract. Stereo cameras are the basic tools used to obtain stereoscopic image pairs, which can lead to truly great image quality. However, some inappropriate shooting conditions may cause discomfort while viewing stereo images. It is therefore considerably necessary to establish the perceptual criteria that can be used to evaluate the shooting quality of stereo cameras. This article proposes objective quality evaluation criteria based on the characteristics of parallel and toed-in camera configurations. Consi… Show more

“…An example of a 3D reconstruction using deterministic stereo matching can be seen in Figure 14. Liu et al [105] show that the minimum working distance should be at least 30 times larger than the baseline between the stereo cameras to generate better stereo images. For stereoscopes with a typical baseline of 4 mm this results in a minimum working distance of about 120 mm which is achievable in a medical environment.…”

“…The success of these 3D application services depend upon providing high quality content [10]. However, this also brings many new concerns and challenges [11]-] [13]. Sending stereoscopic 3D (S-3D) contents for major events like FIFA 2010 and 2014 has become the recent focus of many 3D media service providers [14].…”

“…To decrease the uncertainty, many existing techniques for stereo-vision rely on accurate feature extraction and correspondences. Liu et al [15] discuss the effect of the parameters of stereo cameras on the image quality. Li et al [16] extract the intersection of the associated lines as the feature points and use three points to calculate the relative pose between the object coordinates and the world coordinates.…”
