O-serogroups, virulence genes, antimicrobial susceptibility, and MLST genotypes of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli from swine and cattle in Central China

Abstract: BackgroundShiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) is a leading cause of worldwide food-borne and waterborne infections. “…Among seven strains, no typical pathogenicity markers were detected, indicating that these strains do not belong to the most common pathotypes. An exception is represented by the enterohemolysin coding gene ehxA, frequently detected on plasmids in EHEC strains and frequently reported to be associated with stx genes (Beutin et al, 1989;Peng et al, 2019) and with the possibility to develop severe diseases (Franz et al, 2015).
