Abstract:Estudo histórico-social com o objetivo de analisar a formatura das escolas de enfermagem, em relação ao seu significado e aos emblemas como efeito da assinatura imagética das escolas e da profissão enfermagem para a sociedade. RESUMO:Estudo de perspectiva na micro história teve por objetivo discutir o rito de passagem do Diretor da Escola Prática de Enfermeiras da Cruz Vermelha Brasileira -Órgão Central -Rio de Janeiro, Getúlio dos Santos, em 1929. O método utilizado foi da microanálise, por meio de duas imagens e sua legenda sobre o momento do rito de passagem de Getúlio dos Santos veiculadas na página da Revista da Semana. O resultado da análise ocorreu mediante aplicação de uma matriz de análise com base na semiótica nos planos de expressão e conteúdo, evidenciando a presença de enfermeiras uniformizadas ao ter atitude de zelo e desvelo diante do corpo morto. A conclusão apontou para mais um elemento simbólico que contribuiu para o entendimento da construção da imagem pública da enfermeira com reflexo para a identidade profissional. The result of the analysis took place through the application of an analysis matrix based on the semiotics in the planes of expression and content, evidencing the presence of uniformed nurses, through their attitude of care and concern regarding the dead body. The conclusion pointed to one more symbolic element which contributed to the understanding of the public image of the nurse, reflecting the professional identity. The objectives of this historical-social study are: to describe the circumstances that determined the participation of North American nurses in the formation of the Brazilian nurse; and analyse the process of implementing institutional rituals as a strategy of symbolic fight, to confer visibility to the nurse profession and discuss the symbolic effects of institutional rituals for the consecration of a nurse model for Brazilian society at the time. The primary sources are constituted of pertaining written and photographic documents relative to the studied theme. By reading the documentary corpus an analysis was made of the symbols that had distinguished and established the hierarchies of the actions, as well as the strategies undertaken for the North American nurses, towards implementing a new model of nurses in Brazilian society, coherent with the model of the North American schools of nursing. Institutional rituals, conducted or testified by prestigious figures of the history of Brazil and nursing, were fundamental for the construction of professional identity.

Objective: to analyze the use of the student uniform as one of the determinants in the establishment of the professional identity of the nurse graduated from Escola de Enfermagem Anna Nery in the 1950-1960. Method: Socio-historical study, using documents of that time and interviews by means of the thematic oral history technique with seven former Escola de Enfermagem Anna Nery students as sources, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Claude Dubar’s concept of identity supported the discussion of the data. Results: the uniform leveled the students, equaled them and set a standard of behavior to be followed. It also distinguished them hierarchically and served as an assessment item during the course. Conclusion: the uniform was a determinant strategy of the professional identity during the daily course reality as, according to the former students, it was an element that distinguished this group’s positions and behaviors, permitting the understanding of the graduated nurse’s possible roles in the society of that time.
