Abstract:Thetheme of the article is the concept of letter in the humanistic grammar of the 16th century, which derives from an adaptation of the concept of 'litera' in Latin grammar. To develop this debate, we work with texts by Fernão de Oliveira, João de Barros and Anchieta, analyzing them according to the theoretical description of Sylvain Auroux, Konrad Koerner and Pierre Swiggers, on the subject of grammatization technology in the Western world.
