Nutritive value of evening primrose (<i>Oenothera paradoxa</i>) cake for ruminants

Abstract: The nutritive value of evening primrose (Oenothera paradoxa) oil cake was estimated from chemical composition and nutrient digestibility. The cake contained on average (per kg): 210 g crude protein, 0.55 UFL, 0.44 UFV, 110 PDI (PDIE -PDIN = -22 g), 92 g PDIA and 100 g of ether extract. The proportion of methionine and cystine in cake was relatively high (1.97 and 2.17 g/16 g N) but that of lysine was rather low (2.00 g/16 g N). Linoleic (C 18 . 2n6 ) -73.1%, y-linolenic (C 18 . 3n6 ) -9,0% and oleic (C 181 n9 … Show more

“…1.2.6 (1993) software according to the INRA (IZ, 1993) system. The values of protein degradability coefficients in the rumen (deg) and intestinal digestibility of feed protein undegraded in the rumen (PDIA) were obtained as in our previous experiment on the same batch of evening primrose oil cake (Stasiniewicz et al, 1998).…”

“…Previous studies on the nutritive value and effect of feeding evening primrose oil cake as a diet component on beef quality, milk composition, calf performance and nutrient digestibility and utilisation have already been published (Stasiniewicz et al, 1998;Strzetelski et al, 1998 a, b,c).…”
