Nutrition and Delirium

Abstract: Delirium is a common and serious complication in hospitalised older people. Poor nutrition and hydration are both risk factors for, and consequences of, delirium. This chapter will discuss the phenomenology of delirium and the role of nurses in recognising, preventing and managing this serious complication. It will also provide practical strategies to support nutrition and hydration in patients with, or at risk of, delirium.
