Abstract: The rise of the nutraceutical market, specifically oral nutrition supplements claiming to improve skin appearance, is striking. This paper aims to examine the published scientific evidence for beneficial effects of nutraceuticals on skin appearance. “…There are additionally many other vital proteins, other than collagen, that contribute to the appearance and properties of skin. While some proponents may rely on the body of evidence from animal studies, these findings cannot necessarily be extrapolated to humans due to differences in digestion, enzyme activity, and metabolism …”
