This paper aims to analyze nurses' role in tuberculosis control from the perspective of equity in the context of Latin American countries. Tuberculosis is frequently associated with poverty, but many other determinants play an important role in its prevalence. Latin American countries fight against the presence of this illness and nursing professionals play a protagonist role in TB control, proposing comprehensive interventions in different spheres -individuals, families and society. The focus of nursing intervention ranges from public policy proposals, based on epidemiological research, through the establishment of multi-sector programs, to direct care and client education at the operative level. Different professional nursing institutions can play a decisive role in this problem' integral approach, both in national and international scopes. This requires the establishment of educative, social, technical and politically integrated support networks. O papel da enfermagem no controle da tuberculose: uma discussão sob a perspectiva da equidade O objetivo do presente artigo foi analisar o papel do profissional da enfermagem no controle da tuberculose, sob a perspectiva da equidade, no âmbito dos países da América Latina. A tuberculose está frequentemente associada à pobreza, mas muitos outros determinantes contribuem de modo importante para sua prevalência. Os países sulamericanos lutam contra essa enfermidade e a enfermagem possui papel de protagonista no controle desse problema, reivindicando intervenções integrais, voltadas para as diferentes esferas: individual, familiar e social. A intervenção da enfermagem é enfocada desde o desenho das políticas públicas, com base em estudos epidemiológicos, mediante a implementação de programas multissetoriais, até a assistência direta e a educação dos usuários no plano operativo. Diferentes instituições profissionais da enfermagem podem desenvolver atuação decisiva para a abordagem integral do problema, no âmbito nacional e internacional, devendo, para isso, estabelecer redes de apoio integradas às dimensões educativas, social, técnica e política.Descritores: Tuberculose; Inequidade Social; Enfermagem.El rol de la enfermería em el control de la tuberculosis: uma discusión desde la perspectiva de la equidad El objetivo del presente artículo es analizar el rol de la enfermera en el control de la tuberculosis desde la perspectiva de la equidad, en el ámbito de los países latinoamericanos. As a disease of chronic evolution, Tuberculosis (TB) requires more health care professionals, especially nursing staff, to encourage the patient not to abandon the treatment and achieve a cure. Thus, this study aimed to describe the state of the art of scientific publications regarding the approach that is given to nursing aids regarding TB control. The literature search was performed on the database of the Virtual Health Library, The Lilacs, indexed with the following descriptors: tuberculosis, nursing, nursing care, nursing services and nursing team. We established the following inclusion criteria: Papers published in Brazil between 2002 and 2011. Selected articles were separated into three categories: "daily practice of nursing care or planning for TB control", "research and teaching in nursing" and "biosafety". We selected twenty-four articles which met the criteria of the study. It was observed that there was an increase in the number of publications since 2005, with 70.9% of articles published in specific nursing journals; 54.2% dealt with actions related to the daily practice of nursing in TB control, 37, 5% were related to the occupational hazard caused by the direct care of patients with TB and just over 8% were related to the teaching and research of the disease for nurses. These findings highlight the interest in understanding the role of nursing care for patients with TB, raising relevant issues with respect to knowledge and skills of these professionals to fulfill their task, including concern about the risk of disease, since they are so exposed to the disease they become part of the care plan for the patient and also to the family of which this patient belongs.

This study sought to analyze the actions of an active search for respiratory symptomatics (RSs) in the control of tuberculosis (TB) enfermagem e agentes indígenas de saúde. Utilizou-se a técnica de grupo focal como instrumento de coleta de dados, cujo tratamento fundamentou-se na técnica de análise de discurso. Evidenciaram-se debilidades de natureza operacional, relacionadas à organização do serviço de saúde local para a implantação de rotinas de diagnóstico para a TB: ausência de rotina sistematizada para a busca de SR, dificuldades na organização do material para exame bacteriológico, abordagem inadequada ao paciente, durante a coleta do escarro, e insuficiente capacitação profissional. Julga-se necessário melhorar a organização dos serviços para a detecção precoce dos casos de TB, no cenário indígena local.Descritores: Tuberculose; População Indígena; Serviços de Saúde.La búsqueda activa de sintomáticos respiratorios para el control de la tuberculosis en el escenario indígena Potiguara, estado de Paraíba, BrasilEste estudio analiza las acciones de la búsqueda activa de sintomáticos respiratorios (SR) para el control de la tuberculosis (TB) en el Distrito Sanitario Especial Indígena Potiguara, en Paraíba, Brasil, en el período de mayo a junio de 2007. Después de aprobado por el Comité de Ética en Investigación, fueron reunidos 23 profesionales, entre médicos, enfermeros, técnicos de enfermería y agentes indígenas de la salud. Se utilizó la técnica de grupo focal como instrumento de recolección de datos, cuyo tratamiento se fundamentó en la técnica de análisis de discurso. Se evidenciaron debilidades de naturaleza operacional, relacionadas a la organización del servicio de salud local para la implantación de rutinas de diagnóstico para la TB, que fueron: ausencia de una rutina sistematizada para la búsqueda de SR, dificultades en la organización del material para examen bacteriológico, abordaje inadecuado al paciente durante la recolección del esputo, e insuficiente capacitación profesional. Se juzga necesario mejorar la organización de los servicios para la detección precoz de los casos de TB en el escenario indígena local.
