Objective: to describe the frequency of nursing diagnoses in hospitalized children. Methods: this is a crosssectional study carried out in a hospital for children, from 738 medical records. Data analysis was based on descriptive statistics. Results: a frequency of 2,100 nursing diagnoses was identified, distributed in 15 diagnostic concepts, six domains, and 12 classes, according to NANDA-I Taxonomy II. The most prevalent diagnoses were: ineffective respiratory pattern (18.7%), hyperthermia (15.2%), impaired sleep pattern (11.1%), unbalanced nutrition: less than body needs (10.8%), fear (9.3%), acute pain (7.1%) and diarrhea (6.7%). Conclusion: five nursing diagnoses were described in hospitalized children: "ineffective respiratory pattern", "hyperthermia", "diarrhea", "fear" and "acute pain". The first three diagnoses are closely related to the conditions that determine the major causes of hospitalization in childhood: acute respiratory infections and gastroenteritis. Métodos: estudo transversal, realizado em uma unidade hospitalar infantil, a partir de 738 prontuários. A análise dos dados baseou-se na estatística descritiva. Resultados: identificou-se frequência de 2.100 diagnósticos de enfermagem distribuídos em 15 conceitos de diagnósticos, seis domínios e 12 classes, conforme a Taxonomia II da NANDA-I. Os mais prevalentes foram: padrão respiratório ineficaz (18,7%), hipertermia (15,2%), padrão de sono prejudicado (11,1%), nutrição desequilibrada: menor do que as necessidades corporais (10,8%), medo (9,3%), dor aguda (7,1%) e diarreia (6,7%). Conclusão: foram descritos cinco diagnósticos de enfermagem mais incidentes em crianças hospitalizadas "padrão respiratório ineficaz", "hipertermia", "diarreia" "medo" e "dor aguda". Destes, os três primeiros apresentam estreita relação com as condições que determinam as maiores causas de hospitalização na infância: infecções respiratórias agudas e gastroenterites.

Background: This study addresses the need for a theoretical base to develop more effective early autism spectrum disorders (ASD) detection tools. The structure that underlies early ASD detection is explored by evaluating the opinions of experts on ASD screening tools currently used in Europe. Method: A process of face and content validity was performed. First, the best constructs were selected from the relevant tests: Checklist for Early Signs of Developmental Disorders (CESDD), Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (CHAT), Early Screening of Autistic Traits Questionnaire (ESAT), Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (M-CHAT), Social Communication Questionnaire (SCQ) and Communication and Symbolic Behaviour Scales Developmental Profile (CSBS-DP). The diagnostic content validity model by Fehring (1986Fehring ( , 1994 was adapted to make the selection. Afterwards, the items, taken from these tests, were selected to fit into each construct, using the same methodology. Results: Twelve of the 18 constructs were selected by the experts and 11 items were chosen from a total of 130, reduced to eight after eliminating tautologies. Conclusions: Mapping these constructs and items on to the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for ASD indicated good face and content validity. Results of this research will contribute to efforts to improve early ASD screening instruments and identify the key behaviours that experts in ASD see as the most relevant for early detection. Key Practitioner Message• The study outlines the main screening instruments used across Europe and the need to improve early detection of autism spectrum disorders (ASD).• A novel approach, based on content validity, was used to identify the key behaviours that experts in ASD see as the most relevant for early detection.• Results of this study can help practitioners improve their understanding of early ASD and be more confident in their screening results, while also serving as a theoretical framework to develop more effective screening tests.

Aim: The objective of the review was the analysis of Czech and foreign literature sources and professional periodicals to obtain a relevant comprehensive overview of validation studies of nursing diagnoses in neonatology. Design: Review. Methods: The selection criterion was studies concerning the validation of nursing diagnoses in neonatology. To obtain data from relevant sources, the licensed professional databases EBSCO, Web of Science and Scopus were utilized. The search criteria were: date of publication -unlimited; academic periodicals -full text; peer-reviewed periodicals; search language -English, Czech and Slovak. Results: A total of 788 studies were found. Only 5 studies were eligible for content analysis, dealing specifically with validation of nursing diagnoses in neonatology. The analysis of the retrieved studies suggests that authors are most often concerned with identifying the defining characteristics of nursing diagnoses applicable to both the mother (parents) and the newborn. The diagnoses were validated in the domains Role Relationship; Coping/Stress tolerance; Activity/Rest, and Elimination and Exchange. Diagnoses represented were from the field of dysfunctional physical needs as well as the field of psychosocial and spiritual needs. The diagnoses were as follows: Parental role conflict (00064); Impaired parenting (00056); Grieving (00136); Ineffective breathing pattern (00032); Impaired gas exchange (00030); and Impaired spontaneous ventilation (00033). Conclusion: Validation studies enable effective planning of interventions with measurable results and support clinical nursing practice.
