Introduction: We know as a transgender person who is not identified with the sex of birth, this fact still collected as pathology by the current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Illness (DSM-V) will cause inequalities and barriers At the time of health care.Objective: To explore the difficulties for health care perceived by trans* people and by the professionals who assist them in health centres.Material and method: Literature review.Results: Both professionals and trans* people perceive significant barriers. They could be grouped by diverse topics: healthcare inequalities noticed by trans* patients, prejudices and felt discrimination, specific health risks, lack of professional knowledge and deficit of training in current curricula. On the other hand, nursing with trans* patients may result in a facilitator. Conclusions: There are multiple factors which can be modified and which produce that trans* people do not notice appropriate care. Appropriate training of health professionals is the one which acquires more relevance. The results found provide key information for the future design of interventions aimed at improving the quality of the assistance in this group. Introducción: Conocemos como una persona trans* a aquella que no se identifica con el sexo de nacimiento, este hecho aún recogido como patología por el actual manual diagnóstico y estadístico de enfermedades mentales (DSM-V) va a provocar que existan desigualdades y barreras significativas a la hora de la atención sanitaria.Objetivo: Explorar las dificultades para la asistencia sanitaria percibidas por las personas trans* y por los profesionales que los atienden en centros sanitarios.Material y método: Revisión de la literatura.Resultados: Tanto los profesionales como las personas trans* perciben barreras significativas. Se podrían agrupar en diversos temas: desigualdades en la atención sanitaria percibidas por los pacientes trans*, prejuicios y discriminación sentida, riesgos específicos de salud, déficit de conocimientos de los profesionales y déficit de formación en los planes de estudio actuales. Por otro lado, enfermería ante los pacientes trans* puede resultar un facilitador.Conclusiones: Existen numerosos factores que pueden ser modificables y que provocan que las personas trans* no perciban una asistencia adecuada. La adecuada formación de los profesionales sanitarios es uno de los que adquiere mayor relevancia Los resultados encontrados aportan una información clave para el futuro diseño de intervenciones dirigidas a mejorar la calidad de la asistencia en este colectivo.

Trans kavramı içine karşıt giysicilik (karşı cinsin kıyafetlerini giymekten hoşlanan kimse), Turkiye Klinikleri J Nurs Sci. 2019;11(3):331-8 331 Trans Bireylerin Sağlığı ve Hemşirenin Rolü Ö ÖZ ZE ET T Biyolojik cinsiyeti hissettiği cinsiyetinden farklı olan kişileri tanımlamak için "trans" kavramı kullanılmaktadır. Trans bireyler, çocuk yaşlardan itibaren cinsiyetlerine yönelik bir huzursuzluk yaşarlar ve bu durumu çeşitli şekillerde gösterirler. Çoğu trans birey, ergenlik dönemiyle birlikte bedenlerinde gözle görülür değişimler yaşayarak trans kimliğini doğrudan yansıtır. Bu durum, toplumda bir norm olarak kabul edilen erkek ve kadın kalıplarına uymadığı için bu bireyler, sosyal yaşamlarında çeşitli sorun ve ayrımcılık (etiketlenme, sözlü ve fiziksel saldırıya maruz kalma, toplumdan dışlanma ve iş bulmakta zorluk çekme vb.) ile karşı karşıya kalırlar. Trans bireylere yönelik bu olumsuz tutum "transfobi" olarak adlandırılmaktadır. Transfobi sadece toplumda görülmekle kalmayıp kurumlarda da bulunabilmektedir. Hukuk, eğitim, ordu ve sağlık gibi kurumlarda var olan transfobi, trans bireyler için birçok ayrımcılığı doğurmaktadır. Özellikle sağlık alanında var olan transfobik tutumlar, bu kişileri sağlık hizmetlerine erişimden mahrum bırakabilmektedir. Bu olumsuz tutumlardan dolayı bireyler çoğu zaman sağlık haklarını kullanmaktan kaçınmaktadırlar. Bazı trans bireyler, cinsiyet hoşnutsuzluklarına, cinsiyet değişim ameliyatı ile son vermek isterler. Cinsiyet geçiş süreci de trans bireylerde büyük bir yük oluşturur. Cinsiyet geçiş süreci, içinde psikoterapi, hormon desteği ve cerrahi girişimi bulunduran ve birçok disiplinin birlikte çalışmasını gerektiren zor bir dönemdir. Hemşirelik literatüründe bu bireylerin sorunlarına, sağlıklarının korunup geliştirilmesine ve cinsiyet geçiş sürecinin bu bireylerdeki yüklerine değinen çok az çalışma mevcuttur. Students’ knowledge, comfort, attitudes, and training on oral health of transgender individuals: A pilot study

Purpose The purpose of this pilot study was to evaluate students’ knowledge, comfort, attitudes, and formal training on oral health of transgender individuals. Methods A single‐site cross‐sectional study of 223 students from four educational programs were invited to participate in this study. A 17‐item survey was modified from two previous instruments with permission. The electronic survey was disseminated via Google Forms two times 6 weeks a part. Analyses were conducted using R version 4.1.1. Survey responses were summarized as means and standard deviations. Comparisons of survey responses by program type, age group, prior degree, and gender were performed using the chi‐square test for association and analysis of variance. Results A total of118 completed the survey for a 53% response rate. Students disagreed (26.3%) they had knowledge on hormone treatments or non‐hormonal treatment (40.7%) and strongly disagreed (40.7%) they had knowledge on oral manifestations of hormonal or non‐hormonal therapies. Students strongly agreed they are comfortable treating transgender patients (63.6%) and believe it is the responsibility of all healthcare providers to care for transgender patients (83.1%). Students disagreed they are prepared to care for transgender patients (40.7%) or that their faculty demonstrate competency caring for transgender patients undergoing hormonal treatment (21.4%). Conclusion Students are comfortable providing oral health care to transgender individuals and feel a responsibility to care for them. Formal training on hormonal and non‐hormonal therapy for transgender individuals is needed in dental education programs to enhance students’ knowledge and faculty competence.
