Numerical simulation of the dynamic response of batter piles and pile groups

Abstract: Batter piles are most commonly used to resist large lateral loads caused by winds, tidal waves and soil pressure as experienced by offshore structures, bridges, and towers in general. The details in literature on the dynamic behaviour of these batter piles based on in-situ tests are limited. The present study focused on dynamic lateral behaviour of single batter piles and batter pile groups subjected to machine induced vibrations using 3D finite element (FE) analysis. The coupled soil-pile system consisting of… Show more

“…The use of advanced Green's functions leads to a very compact representation of the problem and to the possibility of accounting for any complex soil profiles in which the seismic excitation is represented as incident planar body waves propagating from an infinitely-distant source. Bharathi et al (2022) investigate the behaviour of batter piles and pile groups using Finite Element (FE) models calibrated using results of an experimental program previously performed by the Authors. Cairo (2022) employs a linear and theoretically robust boundary element approach in conjunction with steady-state analyses to investigate the key features of SSI, identifying situations in which SSI may be relevant.…”
