Numerical simulation of a spouted bed with a draft tube with and without liquid spray

Abstract: Numerical simulations of the gas-solid flow in a flat-based spouted bed with a draft tube (DTSB) are conducted with a Eulerian-Eulerian granular kinetic model. The hydrodynamics of the flow in DTSB is investigated and compared with published experimental data. The effect of the gas velocity on the particles circulation rate is evaluated, and parametric studies of the restitution coefficient are performed. In addition, several different frictional models are tested. A model for the liquid spray injection into a… Show more

“…Literature study reveals that comparatively extensive work has been reported in the field of momentum transfer, whereas limited information is available on heat and mass transfer aspects with liquid injection. [9] performed Eulerian-Eulerian simulations to study the dynamics of gas-solid spouted bed with a draft tube and liquid injection, and compared their results with experiments. [10] studied the particulate flow behaviour in spout fluidized beds for two flow regimes by using an extended CFD-DEM embedding a variable restitution coefficient based on the moisture content with liquid evaporation.…”

“…The researchers obtained detailed distribution profiles of flow properties and compared some average values to the experimental data. A somewhat similar problem was modelled by Li et al (2008). However, they used a Eulerian approach for all three phases.…”

“…Instead it depends on the impact velocity, and is said to approach unity when the impact velocity approaches zero 40. In numerical simulations, this parameter is treated as a constant and usually set in the range 0.9–0.995 31, 41–47. Although the influence of restitution coefficient has often been studied, it was still deemed to be necessary to perform a sensitivity analysis for this parameter as no information has been reported on its influence on gas mixing.…”
