Numerical Modeling of Blood Flow in a Healthy Aorta and Aorta with Stent

Abstract: The treatment of aortic aneurysm varies according to each patient. Stent implantation is one of many methods used to stabilize diseases. The information obtained from hemodynamic parameters in the pathological aorta with stent could help doctors in choosing the treatment before the surgery. In this context, the numerical simulation of fluid dynamics is an essential tool that can give us more detailed information that could be exploited by surgeons to find appropriate solutions to some pathologies. “…In fact, there were no obvious gradients in high TAWSS at the proximal anastomosis among the four bypass modes, and it is worth noting that high TAWSS may be caused by the reverse blood supply of the stent graft being greater than that of the left carotid artery 37 . Moreover, high TAWSS at the proximal anastomosis may facilitate long‐term patency of the bypass graft 38 …”

“…37 Moreover, high TAWSS at the proximal anastomosis may facilitate long-term patency of the bypass graft. 38 In summary, this study used CFD simulations to investigate blood flow characteristics before and after LSA revascularization in occluded LSA, healthy LSA, and four LSA bypass modes. LCA to LSA bypass mode was shown to not only effectively reduce left subclavian steal syndrome, but also provide stable and sufficient blood flow to the distal LSA.…”

“…It was shown that combination of both the techniques resulted in accurate estimation of the wall shear stresses. Belaghit et al [16] performed computations on a realistic healthy aortic arch and that with a stent. They found that the stent limits the dilatation of the descending aorta.…”
