Numerical Investigation on the Performance of Prosthetic Running Blades by Using Different Materials

Abstract: The amputation of a lower limb for humans is one of the most traumatic experiences, both physically and emotionally. Prosthetic running blades provide disabled persons with an opportunity to participate in sports and thus help to improve their psychological health. They also allow them to participate in activities that were previously unavailable to them due to financial constraints. In the current study, we looked at how different materials affected the functionality of prosthetic running blades. We investiga… Show more

“…A wide range of nanomaterials have found applications in prosthetic devices. Nanoparticles are particles at the nanoscale that can be engineered from various materials, such as metals, ceramics, and polymers (Goh et al, 2002;Campbell et al, 2012;Lindberg et al, 2018;Kadhim et al, 2019;Abbas et al, 2020;Abubakre et al, 2023;Siddiqui et al, 2023). These nanoparticles find applications in drug delivery systems, enabling targeted and controlled release of medications to alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, or promote tissue regeneration.…”

“…On the other hand, numerical modeling enables a comprehensive evaluation of the prosthetic running blade's reliability, including factors such as stress distribution, strain patterns, and energy absorption (19,22,28). Moreover, numerical modeling facilitates design optimization by exploring various parameters such as materials, geometries, and structural configurations.…”

“…A biomechanical study using finite element (FE) analysis helps to examine the mechanical behavior of the designed orthoses under different loading and other boundary conditions for various materials. The FE technique offers tremendous time and cost savings for assistive devices such as orthoses (or splints), prosthetics, etc., that need to be modified and checked regularly for different materials and thicknesses (Kubasad et al, 2020;Siddiqui et al, 2023). FE analysis predicts the success and failure of the 3D model by studying the biomechanical properties, thus simulating realworld scenarios.…”
