Nucleophilic addition of amines, alcohols, and thiophenol with epoxide/olefin using highly efficient zirconium metal organic framework heterogeneous catalyst

Abstract: A zirconium metal-organic framework catalyst was synthesized and investigated in the ring opening of epoxides with nucleophiles such as amines, alcohols, and thiophenol. For comparative study, Cu and Zn metal-organic framework catalysts were prepared. The zirconium based porous metal-organic framework catalyst was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, nitrogen adsorption, scanning electron microscopy, thermo gravimetric analysis, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic techniques. Application of thes… Show more

“…Astonishing high activity was achieved in these reactions due the incorporation of Zr in the framework structure of zeolite. To further confirm this hypothesis, Zr containing metal organic framework was prepared and investigated in these reactions . Through these studies, it was confirmed that Zr substitution in the zeolite framework was important for these reactions.…”

“…This is due to the effective adsorption of CO 2 in the material and also due to the effective activation of CO 2 by the imidazole linker present in the material. In our previous report, we have demonstrated that Zn based MOFs including ZIF‐8 was not good for the ring‐opening of the epoxide during the amination reaction of the epoxide . At the same time, Zr based MOF and nanocrystalline zirconosilicates have been reported to exhibit very good activity in the ring‐opening reaction of the epoxide .…”

“…In our previous report, we have demonstrated that Zn based MOFs including ZIF-8 was not good for the ringopening of the epoxide during the amination reaction of the epoxide. [42] At the same time, Zr based MOF and nanocrystalline zirconosilicates have been reported to exhibit very good activity in the ring-opening reaction of the epoxide. [39] If the activity of nanocrystalline zirconosilicates and UiO-66 is considered, the activity of nanocrystalline zirconosilicate is more in the ringopening reaction of the epoxide.…”

“…However, the use of acids and alkalis has brought challenges to the environment. In order to avoid such problems, various transition-metal catalysts have been developed and used to efficiently catalyze the Michael addition to synthesize β-amino acid esters [12][13][14][15][16][17]. Although desired results were obtained, the use of metal catalysts and expensive ligands are still shortcomings for the practical utility.…”
