Show more

“…Each device weighed 4.8 g and had 480 m of thread and was attached to the fur between the shoulders of each individual by using an ester‐cyanoacrylate‐based glue (Henkel Loctite Adesivos Ltda., Manaus, Brazil; Delciellos et al . , ). The thread released by the device allowed mapping the animals` path, obtaining movement data on a fine scale (e.g.…”

“…Artificial nest grids had 21 nest stations, 30-40 m apart (details in LORETTO 2005 andDELCIELLOS et al 2006). Artificial nests were made of painted bamboo culms (Bambusa vulgaris var.…”

“…These endemic species are restricted to 11-16% of the biome's original coverage (RIBEIRO et al 2009). Habitat loss and the cryptic habits of most medium to large or small mammal species make them difficult to study (BEKER & DALPONTE 1991, DELCIELLOS et al 2006, PREVEDELLO et al 2008. About 10% of the Atlantic forest mammal species are small marsupials, opossums and mouse opossums (REIS et al 2006, Didelphimorphia: Didelphidae).…”

“…There have been a number of studies on the use of space by several species using the spool-and-line tracking technique (PREVEDELLO et al 2008, CERBONCINI et al 2011. This technique allows the calculation of total home range of individuals in the traditional sense (CERBONCINI et al 2011) as well the calculation of the "daily home range" (DHR), resulting from the movement of animals during their normal activities in one night (CUNHA & VIEIRA 2002, MENDEL & VIEIRA 2003, LORETTO & VIEIRA 2005, DELCIELLOS et al 2006, ALMEIDA et al 2008, PREVEDELLO et al 2010). This technique is also useful for investigating other characteristics of habitat use by individuals since it allows the mapping of the places where the individuals move.…”
