Novel silicon‐contained lignin‐based carbon fibers derived from bamboo pulping black liquor with improved electrochemical performance for supercapacitors

Abstract: Carbon fibers (CFs) are a promising candidate as electrode materials for flexible supercapacitors given its light weight and moderate cost. In this study, the lignin used was partially separated from kraft bamboo pulping black liquor and the higher molecular weight fraction, unavoidably contains a small amount of silicon compounds, so named silicon‐contained lignin. Novel CFs were prepared using commercial polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and the lignin by electrospinning and further carbonization. Even in the presence… Show more

“…To further explore the possibility of reducing the cost of carbon fiber, Xu et al tried using bamboo black liquor lignin containing more silicon to prepare LCFs. 149 As shown in Fig. 8e, in spite of the presence of high silicon compounds, the fiber morphology of the precursor fibers was also remarkably good.…”

“…The peak at 3,433 cm −1 was attributed to N-H in PAN, and O-H in the aromatic ring of lignin. In addition, the peaks of PAN at 2,937 and 2,243 cm −1 were attributed to C-H and C≡N, respectively ( Si et al, 2009 ; Xu et al, 2021c ). It was noted that the O-H peak increased with the increase of lignin content and had a trend of low-wavelength shift, and C≡N cyanine peaks gradually weakened.…”

“…This can reduce the heat exchange load of alkali recovery boiler and improve the treatment capacity of black liquor [15][16][17][18] . In addition, it has a certain desilication effect when separating lignin due to the adsorption of silicon by lignin, which is helpful for overcoming the "Silicon Interference" 19,20 .…”
