Novel Schiff base ligand and its metal complexes with some transition elements. Synthesis, spectroscopic, thermal analysis, antimicrobial and in vitro anticancer activity

Abstract: A novel Schiff base ligand (H2L) was prepared through condensation of 2,6‐diaminopyridine and o‐benzoylbenzoic acid in a 1:2 ratio. This Schiff base ligand was characterized using elemental and spectroscopic analyses. A new series of Cr(III), Mn(II), Fe(III), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) metal complexes of H2L were prepared and characterized using elemental analysis, spectroscopy (1H NMR, mass, UV–visible, Fourier transform infrared, electron spin resonance), magnetic susceptibility, molar conduct… Show more

“…The magnetic moment values of [Fe(L a ) L c Cl]Cl and [Fe(L b ) L c Cl]Cl complexes were found to be 5.72 and 5.68 BM indicating the octahedral geometry for the complexes . However, the magnetic moment values of [Co(L a ) L c Cl]Cl·H 2 O and [Co(L b ) L c Cl]Cl complexes were found to be 5.46 and 5.32 BM, respectively, suggesting that the Co(II) complexes were high‐spin with three unpaired electrons in an octahedral environment . The observed magnetic moment of [Ni(L a ) L c Cl]Cl·H 2 O and [Ni(L b ) L c Cl]Cl complexes at room temperature was 3.28 and 3.36 BM.…”

“…These values were in tune with a high spin configuration and showed the presence of an octahedral environment around Ni(II) ion . The magnetic moment of the [Cu(L b ) L c Cl]Cl complex was 1.83 BM, consistent with distorted octahedral geometry …”

“…The phenyl groups bonded to the pyrazalone groups are turned slightly out of the methyl-pyrazolone-hydrazine core planes by 21.43 (5) ∘ for Empp-Ph, 21.21(6) ∘ for Prmpp-Ph, and 12.15 (6) ∘ for Pmpp-Ph. Each structure has an intramolecular C12-H12.…”

“…Similarly, these compounds mostly organic/inorganic based, as ligands or/and their metal complexes, are obtained through careful functional groups modifications by way of formulation, which invariably affects their properties and influence specific applications [4][5][6]. Acylpyrazolone derivatives, mostly known for their use as analytical reagents in the extraction and separation of various metal ions, made possible because of their chelating properties, are a group of bidentate diketones that have been well researched [7][8][9][10].…”

“…[26] The increase in activity of the ligand L1 and the precursor 1 may be due to the biologically active nature of the heterocyclic moiety 2,6-diaminopyridine. [43,44] Studies show that high doses of drugs may cause side effects. So drugs, which have more activity at low concentrations, are highly preferable.…”
