Novel polyvinylpyrrolidone nanocomposites with dispersed poly(amide-imide)/nano-ZrO2 as new nano-filler: morphology, thermal and optical properties

Abstract: In this paper, ultrasonic technique and a biocompatible coupling agent were used for the surface modification of ZrO 2 nanoparticles (NPs). The grafting of N-trimellitylimido-L-leucine as bioactive and biocompatible coupling agent on the surface of ZrO 2 NPs was confirmed by Fourier transmission infrared spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis. Subsequently, the modified NPs were incorporated into the poly(amide-imide) (PAI) matrix through good dispersion. Therefore, poly(amide-imide)/nano-ZrO 2 nanocompos… Show more

“…We can also see that the polymeric chains are held together by the hydroxyl surface groups on the nanoparticle and by electrostatic interactions between other charged/polarized species. 42 This influence, along with the pore morphology and membrane structure, the crystalline content, as seen in XRD and DSC studies, discussed below.…”

“…Nano zirconium dioxide (ZrO 2 ) is an important material for making nanocomposites with polymers due to its many interesting properties such as high dielectric constant, high thermal and chemical stability and compatibility with many polymers such as poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA), polyethylene oxide (PEO), polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), polyamide-imides (PAI), Nafion and PVdF-HFP. 30 36 It has been reported as additive for making artificial dentures in electronics and in electrochemical applications. 34,37 39 ZrO 2 nanoparticles can interact with other charge or polarized species via electrostatic interactions and via surface groups.…”

“…In the spectrum of pure PVP, vibration mode of O—H bond locates at 3000–4000 cm −1 . The stretching vibrations of C═O appeared at 1658 cm −1 and the peak of C—N bond stretching located at 1104–1288 cm −1 . In the spectra of the PVA–PVP–MS nanocomposites, a new peak (ca.…”

“…During the formation of α‐MnO 2 nanoparticles in the presence of KMnO 4 , the K + ions were inserted into the tunnel structure and prevented the formation of other phases. [ 66,67 ] The presence of the Fe atom in EDX results indicates the successful modification of the MnO 2 surface by Fc moiety. Also, the presence of the C atom in the EDX spectra of the synthesized nanocomposite comes from CA as a carbonaceous backbone and Fc derivative, which confirms the successful formation of the nanocomposite.…”
