This paper presents the standalone type vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) smart rotor using variable diameter rotor (VDR) in order to tap constant power and maintain cut-in wind speed. VDR is a smart variable rotor capable of operating at a low wind speed, in which the width of diameter rotor is adjustable using actuators. The VDR rotor is connected to the permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) and a DC-DC boost converter. The controller of VDR rotors uses fuzzy logic controller (FLC). The FLC variable inputs are wind speed data and power output, broken down into cluster groups to determine the diameter rotor position. The wind speed data as fuzzy input are produced by wind speed estimator using artificial neural network (ANN) to maintain cut-in speed to be faster. The velocity movement of VDR is limited from 75 cm to 150 cm. The VDR extension increases by 25% when the wind speed decreases from 8 to 6 m/s to obtain consistent power at 150 Watt. The experimental of VDR system is tested at low wind speeds ranging from 1 to 8 m/s as a verification of the control system. The result showed that the VDR produced five times increase in efficiency with faster cut-in wind speed at 2.0 m/s.

Enhancement of Photovoltaic Pressurized Irrigation System Based on Hybrid Kalman Fuzzy

This paper presents an enhancement of a pressurized irrigation system without battery and water tank storage. The system is powered by a photovoltaic (PV) system with a hybrid Kalman filter and fuzzy logic (HKF)-based control system. The Kalman filter estimates the maximum power point, whereas fuzzy logic controls the boost converter to optimize the PV output. The system manages the water pressure by matching the power of the brushless DC (BLDC) motor and the number of valves to be operated. A prototype of the system was built on a laboratory scale using a 32bit ARM microcontroller and pressurized irrigation networks. Results from the simulation and prototype tests were very similar in terms of tracking the optimum power. The average steady-state oscillation amplitude is 0.65 watts, while the average rise time is 1.02 seconds. The performance of the HKF is much better than perturb and observe (P&O) method.

Turbin angin sumbu vertikal atau VAWT (Vertical Axis Wind Turbine) merupakan turbin angin yang memiliki struktur mekanik tegak ke atas dengan bilah-bilah turbin yang berputar terhadap sumbu-z tegak lurus. Berdasark an hasil eksperimen diperoleh bahwa terdapat hubungan antara kecepatan putaran turbin yang memutar generator dengan keluaran tegangan dan daya yang dihasilkan, sehingga diperlukan upaya mengendalikan kecepatan turbin angin agar dapat berputar sesuai setpoin yang ingin dicapai. Kontribusi dari penelitian ini berupa pengembangan sistem kontrol berbasis logika Fuzzy untuk mengendalikan kecepatan turbin VAWT dengan hanya menggunakan umpan balik berupa kecepatan turbin angin. Hal ini berbeda dengan penelitian sebelumnya dimana kecepatan angin dan keluaran daya dijadikan sebagai umpan balik. Untuk mengetahui karakteristik dari kecepatan turbin dan keluaran tegangan, serta hubungan antara kecepatan turbin dan kecepatan angin dengan variasi sudut pitch bilah, maka pengujian dilakukan dalam skala laboratorium dengan menggunakan blower. Untuk merancang rule base (aturan) Fuzzy, maka karakteristik dari respon turbin angin terhadap kecepatan angin diteliti terlebih dahulu. Kemudian kontroller berbasis logika Fuzzy dibuat dan diimplementasikan. Untuk menguji efektivitas kontroller Fuzzy yang dibuat, maka implementasi dilakukan pada turbin VAWT sedangkan simulasi diterapkan pada model PMSG turbin angin melalui Simulink/Matlab. Berdasarkan hasil pengujian melalui simulasi dan eksperimen dengan mengukur kinerja respon sistem kontrol menggunakan Integral Absolut Error (IAE) untuk masing-masing nilai setpoin kecepatan turbin (35, 45, 85, dan 100 RPM) diperoleh bahwa untuk nilai setpoin kecil maka nilai IAE akan semakin besar dibandingkan setpoin yang lebih tinggi. Persentase nilai rata-rata IAE untuk simulasi adalah 10,25% lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan eksperimen. Hal ini kemudian menunjukkan bahwa pengendalian kecepatan turbin pada kecepatan rendah relatif lebih sulit dibandingkan dengan kecepatan turbin lebih tinggi.
