Novel carrier for seafood wastewater treatment using moving bed biofilm reactor system

Abstract: In this work, seafood wastewater was treated by using MBBR reactor over a novel carrier (PUF-PVA gel) derived from the combination of a porous (PUF) and hydrophilic surface (PVA gel). A freezing-thawing method was used for the preparation of the novel PUF-PVA gel which is reported for the first time. Experimental results indicated that PUF-PVA gel carrier which possesses an excellent textural structure (specific surface area of 3.4 m2/g, pore size in the range of 10 -40 μm and hydrophilic surface) accounts for… Show more

“…To address this issue, reducing the size of the hydrogel can increase the external surface area, thereby enhancing the probability of contact between the substrate and the carrier per unit volume 14 . In addition, increasing the hydrogel's speci c surface area and porosity can improve the permeability of the substrate into the gel 15 .…”

“…Some carriers like the polyurethane sponge cube are made of porous foam and belong to plastic variants [19]. [20] performed an experiment using a hybrid-structure novel carrier. Meanwhile, [21] investigated the surface properties, influences of shape, size, and materials, and performance of carriers.…”
