Novel bis(napthalic anhydrides) and polyheteroarylenes on their basis

Abstract: A series of novel bis(naphtha1ic anhydrides) has been prepared through acenaphthene interaction with the dichloroanhydrides of dicarboxylic acids under the conditions of the Friedel-Crafts reaction or with chloral and bromal followed by oxidation of bis-acenaphthyls and anhydrization of the tetracarboxylic acids synthesized. Poly(naphthoy1ene benzoimidazoles) combining advantageous thermal properties and solubility in organic solvents have been obtained through interaction between the synthesized anhydrides an… Show more

“…The bis(ketonaphthalic-anhydride), IIa, was synthesized by FriedelCrafts reaction of isophthalic acid chloride with two-fold molar amounts of acenaphthene and subsequent oxidation of the obtained bis(acenaphthyl) to obtain the corresponding naphthalene tetracarboxylic acid that by anhydrization led to the corresponding dianhydride (34).…”

“…14,15 Polymers Poly(naphthalene-imide)s, I, have been prepared by solution polycondensation reaction at high temperature of equimolar amounts of aromatic diamines containing oxadiazole rings with naphthalene-1,4,5,8-tetracarboxylic dianhydride or bis(ketonaphthalic-anhydride) to produce polyimides Ia-Id, or with a mixture 1:1 of 6FDA and naphthalene-1,4,5,8-tetracarboxylic dianhydride/ bis(ketonaphthalic-anhydride) to obtain copolyimides Ie-Ih. The polycondensation reaction was carried out in N-methylpyrrolidinone (NMP), in the presence of benzoic acid as catalyst, at a concentration of 10-12% total solids, as shown in Scheme 1.…”
