“…The non‐appearance of the distortions of the alloy dissolution in Tris ‐buffered solutions may be attributed to the demonstrated strong reactive nature of Mn which can counteract the above discussed effect of possible Fe‐complex formation. However, in an earlier study it was shown that also the addition of C to Fe (Fe‐1C) can induce such an effect …”

“…Characterisation of the fast solidified Fe‐30Mn‐1C alloy by means of XRD (not shown here) revealed an austenitic phase with Fm ‐3 m structure. Figure summarises a typical SEM image taken from the cross‐sectional area of a rod sample and the corresponding EDX mappings of Fe, Mn and C. A dendritic microstructure is presented which is composed of fine austenitic grains . From the EDX analysis, an enrichment of Mn along the austenite grain boundaries can be derived whereby the core regions of the austenite grains are Fe‐rich relative to the nominal alloy composition.…”

“…Attempting to find a proper Fe-based alloy with suitable degradation rate, some researchers achieved novel Fe alloys such as Fe-Pd [120], Fe-Mn-C-S [121] and Fe-Ga [122] which showed higher corrosion rate compared to pure Fe in vitro. Capek et al [120] stated that the preparation route significantly influenced material properties such as mechanical strength and corrosion rate.…”

“…The effect of adding Ca and Mg was assessed by the potentiodynamic polarization test where the results showed an increased corrosion current density related to the amount of Ca and Mg present in the solid solution [18,19]. The corrosion current density (j corr ) is representative of the degradation degree of the alloy.…”
