Novel bio-mediated Ag/Co3O4 nanocomposites of different weight ratios using aqueous neem leaf extract: Catalytic and microbial behaviour

Theophrasite β-Ni(OH)2 nanocluster were fabricated via the sonochemical-assisted biogenic method using chia seeds extract as a reducing and stabilizing agent. The optical and morphological feature of the synthesized nanocluster was characterized using UV-Vis, FTIR, FE-SEM-EDS, HR-TEM, DLS, XPS, and XRD analysis. According to FE-SEM and HR-TEM images of the synthesized materials, β-Ni(OH)2 nanocluster illustrates the hexagonal particle shape with an average size of 5.8 nm, while the EDS results confirm the high purity of the synthesized nanocluster. Moreover, the XRD pattern of the synthesized materials shows typical peaks that match the reference pattern of the Theophrasite form of β-Ni(OH)2 with a hexagonal crystal system. The XPS analysis illustrates that the prepared samples exhibit both Ni2+ and Ni3+ with the predominance of Ni2+ species. Additionally the in-vitro cytotoxic activity of β-Ni(OH)2 nanocluster is tested against the MCF7 cell lines (breast cancer cells). The MTT assay results proved that the synthesized β-Ni(OH)2 nanocluster has potent cytotoxic activity against breast cancer cell lines (IC50: 62.7 μg/mL).

Biogenic Synthesis of Copper Oxide Nanoparticles Using Pimpinella anisum Seed Extract Characterization and Antibacterial activity

Recent attention has been drawn to green methods for preparing metal oxide nanoparticles due to their ease of preparation and environmental friendliness in comparison with chemical and physical methods. By using an eco-friendly reducing agent, Pimpinella anisum seed extract, this study describes a method for synthesizing CuO nanoparticles that are based on biological principles. Copper oxide nanoparticles were produced utilizing a precipitation technique involving Pimpinella anisum extract, (CuCl2.2H2O), and (NaOH).To determine the morphology of CuONPs and their elemental composition, shape, size, and type of bonds present in the sample, UV–Vis spectrophotometry, XRD, SEM , and EDS analysis have all been performed. Spectra of the UV-visible spectrum showed an absorption peak between 250 – 300 nm, which confirms the formation of CuO nanoparticles. FT-IR spectral showed bands related to CuO vibration at 529 cm-1 are, suggesting the production of CuO nanoparticles. Analysis by X-ray diffraction revealed that the CuO nanoparticles produced were monoclinic in phase and had mean size of 22 nm. Based on SEM analysis, the obtained nanoparticles have an aspherical shape. EDX analysis was used to confirm copper and oxygen presence. The weight percentage of the latter was (71.2% Cu and 28.8% O), respectively. Four pathogenic microorganisms were used to evaluate the antibacterial efficacy of green-synthesized CuO nanoparticles. As a result, the CuONPs prepared to have the potential for application as antimicrobial agents, suggesting that they may be useful for therapeutic applications in e future.

Using safe and environmentally benign materials is considered one of the green chemistry approaches to avoid waste production. This research reported the biogenic synthesis of CuO nanoplates using Saussurea costus root extract assisted by a microwave sample preparation system. The phytochemical contents in the Saussurea costus root aqueous extract work as the reducing and capping agents for the nanoparticles. The biosynthesized CuO nanoplates were analyzed using UV–Vis spectroscopy, FT-IR, XRD, HR-TEM, DLS, FESEM, and EDS techniques. According to the HR-TEM and FE-SEM results, the CuO nanoparticles exhibited a plate-like shape with a mean size of 29 nm. Furthermore, the XRD results showed a typical agreement with the pattern of the monoclinic phase of copper oxide. The catalytic efficiency of the CuO nanoplates in the reduction of 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol using NaBH4 was examined in terms of environmental catalytic activity. The reaction time took less than 10 min. Thus, CuO nanoplates synthesized via Saussurea costus root aqueous extract show high catalytic-activity potential for the environmental catalytic application of the removal of nitro pollutants.
