Novel Biconical Antenna Configuration with Directive Radiation

Abstract: Abstract-In this paper a novel biconical antenna geometry has been proposed that has directive radiation pattern, higher gain and enhanced front to back ratio. Wide band performance is another characteristic of this new antenna.

“…On the other hand, a discone antenna [16,17] is wideband and can be considered as a special case of biconical antennas [18]. Because of its symmetric structure, a discone antenna has an azimuthally omni-directional radiation pattern.…”

“…The basic idea in theoretical studies is to model the GTEM cells as a right rectangular pyramid having a septum. Similar pyramidal and conical structures were extensively studied mainly for antenna applications [8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16]. The geometry of right rectangular pyramid enables us to expand the fields in eigenfunctions in spherical coordinates.…”
