Novel Approach with Controlled Nucleation and Growth for Green Synthesis of Size-Controlled Cyclodextrin-Based Metal–Organic Frameworks Based on Short-Chain Starch Nanoparticles

Abstract: In this study, the nano- and microsized cyclodextrin-based metal-organic frameworks (CD-MOFs) were successfully conducted using short-chain starch nanoparticles as seeds through the seed-mediated method. The morphology, size, crystal structure, thermal, and N adsorption properties of CD-MOFs prepared at different time intervals were investigated. The scanning electron microscopy results showed that the size variation from nanometer to millimeter could be controlled by crystal growth time. The CD-MOFs based on … Show more

“…This study verified that A and B could be new types of multifunctional drug carriers and also offered the possibility of synergistic drug delivery based on CD-MOFs. Recently, Jin et al designed and synthesized nano- and micro-sized γ-CD-MOFs based on a novel approach with controlled nucleation and growth, which could conveniently and quickly obtain uniform CD-MOFs and keep their structural integrity [96]. Through loading experiments with resveratrol, CD-MOFs exhibited a relatively high loading capacity and a consequently sustained release, indicating that they could be used as delivery carriers for drugs and controlled-release systems.…”

“…CD-MOF is the supramolecular assembly, where γ -CDs are used as building blocks and potassium ions play an auxiliary role in the coordination of ( γ -CD) 6 cubic cell units and link them to form a whole three-dimensional topological network crystal 30 , 31 , 32 . Recently, a number of reports on CD-MOF as a promising drug carrier have emerged to load valsartan 33 , folic acid 34 , sucralose 35 , leflunomide 36 , resveratrol 37 , ibuprofen 38 and lansoprazole 39 . However, most of these studies have focused on enhancing the solubility, stability and bioavailability of drugs 40 , 41 .…”
