Novel Amphiphiles and Their Applications for Different Purposes with Special Emphasis on Polymeric Surfactants

Abstract: Amphiphiles or surfactants are widely known for its reducing power of interfacial tension and extraordinary rheological properties. Among the various classes of surfactants gemini surfactants, biosurfactants and polymeric surfactants are remarkable and distinguishable among the others for their structural diversity and profitable usefulness. Primarily, the performance of any surfactant can be determined by HLB (Hydrophile Lipophile Balance) value, an empirical parameter. This review attempts to clarify some of… Show more

“…The reduction in traditional oil reserves encouraged scientist to develop oils from some other alternative sources and heavy oils that need mild chemical treatment to recover oils by enhanced oil recovery (EOR) (Chowdhury et al, 2019). One surfactant must have certain fundamental requirements to ensure enhance oil recovery (EOR) treatment, such as low interfacial properties, good biodegradability, salt resistance, high temperature resistance, good water solubility and enough lipophilicity, and good foam stability.…”

“…When the concentration of a surfactant solution reaches the cmc, the surfactant molecules reach adsorption saturation on the surface of the solution, and stable micelles composed of several to hundreds of ions or molecules are synthesized from a dispersion state inside the solution. At this instant, the concentration of a single molecule or ion in the solution will not increase significantly and only more micelles can be formed; therefore, the surface tension of the solution does not change much [25,26]. e turning point at the cmc is related to the structural change of the adsorption layer on the surfactant interface.…”

“…Molecules with self-assembling properties are of great demand since they are used in creation of various functional colloid systems including those for practical applications. [1][2][3] Thus, amphiphilic molecules play a critical role in many fields, from household chemicals, food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals to petrochemistry, catalysis, as well as biology and medicine. [4,5] Behavior of amphiphilic molecules in solutions is strongly dependent on their structure, that's why it is important to clearly understand the structureaggregation relationship.…”
