We examine the acquisition of progressivity in the German simple present tense (GPT) and related constructions by English natives of L2 German, under the guise of the Feature Reassembly Hypothesis. German lacks an explicit gerundial form; the AM+infinitive (am) and BEIM+infinitive (beim) constructions express progressivity, along with the GPT. Although semantically the am and beim constructions map to the English copula+gerund, their unique syntax creates grammaticality differences. We employ three experiments testing (1) the acquisition of the aspectual properties of the GPT, and knowledge of the (2) semantic distribution of, and (3) syntax of am and beim. Data from a control group (n = 25) and adult L2s (n = 20) suggest adult L2 feature reassembly is possible, albeit complicated.

ABSTRAKInkorporasi pelesapan verba dalam bahasa Bali mengharuskan adanya proses morfologis terhadap kata yang akan menduduki posisi verba. Proses inkorporasi dalam bahasa Bali biasanya diikuti dengan proses afiksasi. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan proses afiksasi pada inkorporasi pelesapan verba dalam bahasa Bali. Sumber data dari pnelitian ini adalah buku cerita modern berbahasa Bali yang berjudul Tutur Bali karya I Wayan Westa (2013). Data penelitian ini diperoleh melalui metode pustaka dengan teknik catat. Data yang diperoleh diklasifikasi sesuai dengan jenis afiksasi yang terjadi. Data yang telah terklasifikasi dianalisis dengan menggunakan metode agih. Hasil analisis disajikan dengan metode informal. Berdasarkan analisis yang telah dilakukan, proses afiksasi yang ditemukan pada kasus inkorporasi pelesapan verba meliputi proses prefiksasi, proses sufiksasi, dan proses penambahan kombinasi afiks. Proses prefiksasi yang terjadi meliputi penambahan prefik ma-dan N-. Selanjutnya, proses sufiksasi yang ditemukan meliputi penambahan sufiks -in. Proses morfologis yang terakhir adalah berupa penambahan kombinasi afiks seperti N-in, N-ang, ma-an, ma-in, ka-in, -ang-a, dan -in-a. Kata Kunci: inkorporasi verba, afiksasi, bahasa Bali ABSTRACT [Title: The Affixation Process in Verb Incorporation in Balinese Language] The incorporation of verbs in Balinese language requires the morphological process of the word that will replace the verb position. The incorporation process in Balinese is usually followed by affixation process. This article aims to explain the affixation process of incorporating verbs in Balinese language. The source of data of this research is a modern Balinese story book titled Tutur Bali by I Wayan Westa (2013). The data of this research is obtained through library method with technique of note. The data obtained were classified according to the type of affixation that occurs. The classified data were analyzed using the distributional method. The result of analysis is presented by informal method.Based on the analysis that has been conducted, the affixation process found in the case of incorporation of verbs involves the process of prefixation, the process of suffixation, and the process of adding the affix combination. The prefixing process involves the addition of ma-and N-. Furthermore, the process of suffixation includes the addition of the suffix -in. The last morphological process is the addition of a combination of affixes such as N-in, N -ang, ma-an, ma-in, ka-in, -ang-a, and -in-a.
