Note on the carcinological fauna associated with Artemia salina (Branchiopoda, Anostraca) from Sebkha Ez-Zemoul (northeast Algeria)

Abstract

In Algeria, the presence of Artemia is confirmed at five sites, among which the hypersaline Sebkha Ez-Zemoul, a shallow depression situated in a semi-arid region in the northeast of Algeria at 900 m above sea level. Four species of crustaceans were found to be associated here with Artemia salina: Phallocryptus spinosa, Cletocamptus retrogressus, Moina salina, and Heterocypris sp. During the wet periods of the years 2003 and 2004, A. salina and C. retrogressus were the most frequently observed. P. spinosa co-occurred with A. salina during a short period
