“…Recently, adults and nymphs of P. megistus were found in several artificial ecotopes as well as in human dwellings in Santa Catarina Island (SCI), indicating the high potential of this species to invade and colonize human dwellings as observed in the State of São Paulo (Forattini et al 1982, Steindel et al 1994.…”

“…Recentemente Forattini e col. 10 ABSTRACT: In the areas where triatomine bugs have not adapted to human habitations, colonies of these insects have been found in houses occupied by sylvatic or sinanthropic mammals. Bloodmeal identifications from triatomine collected in human habitations and their surroundings usually correlate with those from specimens collected in natural biotopes, when two groups of data are considered, those from birds and mammals.…”

“…23 The data demonstrate that P. megistus , despite being considered wild in southern Brazil, has been showing domestic characteristics for some time. 50 , 51 , 52 , 53 In Paraná, according to the data presented, several colonies were found with a high number of nymphs demonstrating this domiciliation in the Southern region of Brazil. Since this species has greater vectorial capacity and greater ability to form intradomiciliary colonies, a higher proportion of specimens of this species infected with T. cruzi increases the risk of transmission of the protozoan.…”
