Show more

“…Some of these situations include programs for species conservation, management of metapopulations and reintroduction after wildlife rescue (Griffith et al, 1989;Vié, 1999;Fischer and Lindenmayer, 2000;Trovati and Brito, 2009;Marques et al, 2011). In Brazil, translocations are commonly conducted during wildlife rescues, especially during the filling of reservoirs of hydroelectric plants, which have been occurring more frequently in recent decades and whose numbers are expected to increase in coming years (CNI, 2007;Alho, 2011).…”

“…Myrmecophaga tridactyla and T. tetradactyla occupy large home ranges, consisting of approximately 2.5 and 1.0 km 2 , respectively (Trovati & Brito 2009, Bertassoni et al 2017. Furthermore, these species present low visual acuity, which also contribute to the high rate of roadkilled individuals.…”

“…Locomotion in the wild could be related to searching for reproductive partners and increasing availability of food sources (Gallo et al 2017;Trovati & Brito 2009). Individuals of this species tend to move about 1 km per day (Trovati & Brito 2009), but repetitive locomotion in captivity can also be a stereotype behaviour that future studies could work to decrease by stimulating natural behaviours such as interaction, foraging and feeding (Eguizábal et al 2019). Feeding was also commonly recorded (almost a quarter of records), and included acts related to feeding on terrestrial (11.21%) and arboreal (2.31%) termite mounds.…”
