Nonstandard interactions spoiling theCPviolation sensitivity at DUNE and other long baseline experiments

Abstract: It is by now established that neutrino oscillations occur due to non-zero masses and parameters in the leptonic mixing matrix. The extraction of oscillation parameters may be complicated due to subleading effects such as non-standard neutrino interactions (NSI) and one needs to have a fresh look how a particular parameter value is inferred from experimental data. In the present work, we focus on an important parameter entering the oscillation framework -the leptonic CP violating phase δ, about which we know ve… Show more

“…Before closing let us also mention that CP ambiguities will also arise within generic non-standard interaction schemes not directly related to a seesaw mechanism as the origin of neutrino mass. Likewise, dedicated studies, analogous to those in [32][33][34][35] will be required here in order to cover each experimental setup.…”

“…Many recent studies have explored this question for DUNE [6][7][8][9][10] in the context of matter NSIs. In figure 2, we show the effect of NSIs on the precision measurement of θ 23 and δ when the true values of these parameters are 42 • and −90 • , respectively.…”

“…[72][73][74][75] (for other works on degeneracies among standard and non-standard parameters in DUNE see e.g., refs. [76][77][78][79]). The first degeneracy appears for the wrong octant of θ 23 , which would otherwise be correctly determined by the interplay between the appearance and disappearance channels at DUNE (see e.g., ref.…”
