Noncovalent Functionalization, Exfoliation, and Solubilization of Graphene in Water by Employing a Fluorescent Coronene Carboxylate

Abstract: Despite the poor screening of the Coulomb potential in organic semiconductors, excitons can dissociate efficiently into free charges at a donor–acceptor heterojunction, leading to application in organic solar cells. A kinetic Monte Carlo model that explains this high efficiency as a two‐step process is presented. Driven by the band offset between donor and acceptor, one of the carriers first hops across the interface, forming a charge transfer (CT) complex. Since the electron and hole forming the CT complex ha… Show more

“…12 cm -1 to a lower frequency at 1594 cm -1 for the Ag/Ag 3 PO 4 /GO nanocomposites. Generally, it has been proved that the G band of GO nanosheets shifts to lower frequency when it is hybridized with an electron donor component, while it shifts to higher frequency when an electron acceptor component is hybridized [28,[48][49][50]. Accompanied by the information deduced from the XPS spectra, the present Raman spectra further confirm that in our Ag/Ag 3 PO 4 /GO system, GO works as electron acceptor while Ag/Ag 3 PO 4 acts as electron donor.…”

“…79 Recently, the direct exfoliation of graphite has been achieved by surface functionalization of graphene sheets with aromatic carboxylic acids in aqueous solutions. 80,81 The aqueous dispersions of graphene sheets in these cases originate from the non-covalent functionalization of graphene with hydrophilic carboxylic acids through aromatic interactions between graphene surfaces and fused aromatic units. The carboxylic acid groups positioned at the out of plane graphene surface stabilize aqueous dispersions of graphene flakes.…”
