Abstract:This paper presents a new method of manufacturing 3D components by using Flow-Controlled Chemical Machining (FCCM). FCCM can be used for fabrication of 3D components using flow control set-up (or pattern) and suitable etchant. In this investigation, pattern used is perforated and having wettability which is made up of the cotton material. The pattern material has etchant resistant properties. During machining, the pattern is placed on a workpiece and etchant is passed over the pattern. Due to wettability of pattern, a thin layer of etchant is formed below the pattern and etching of work piece is done in the direction of pattern in a stepwise. This investigation is useful in fabrication of various 3D free-form surface components. Since, the chemical etching processes have a very low material removal rate; by optimizing machining parameters such as flow rate of etchant, etchant concentration, temperature etc.; machining rate can be improved.

The aeronautical and automotive industries have, as an essential objective, the energy efficiency optimization of aircraft and cars, while maintaining stringent functional requirements. One working line focuses on the use of lightweight structural materials to replace conventional materials. For this reason, it is considered enlightening to carry out an analysis of the literature published over the last 20 years through Open Access literature. For this purpose, a systematic methodology is applied to minimize the possible risks of bias in literature selection and analysis. Web of Science is used as a search engine. The final selection comprises the 30 articles with the highest average numbers of citations per year published from 2015 to 2020 and the 7 articles published from the period of 2000–2014. Overall, the selection is composed of 37 Open Access articles with 2482 total citations and an average of 67.1 citations per article/year published, and includes Q1 (62%) and Q2 (8%) articles and proceeding papers (30%). The study seeks to inform about the current trends in materials and processes in lightweight structural materials for aeronautical and automotive applications with a sustainable perspective. All the information collected is summarized in tables to facilitate searches and interpretation by interested researchers.

Os aços inoxidáveis por apresentar alta resistência à corrosão em meios oxidantes são de grande uso na indústria e como meio de decoração devido a sua aparência e acabamento superficial. Outra utilização dos aços inoxidáveis tem sido na indústria de confecção de produtos decorativos, de placas de identificação, placas comemorativas, de homenagens, joias, etiquetas metálicas e de peças para micro engenharia pelo processo de usinagem fotoquímica, onde o metal é preparado e atacado com solução de cloreto férrico gerando altas taxa de corrosão no metal em áreas definidas, dando forma às peças. O presente trabalho objetiva estudar o aço 304, como material usado na usinagem fotoquímica, atacado com solução de cloreto férrico em diferentes concentrações e temperaturas. Para este trabalho, foram realizadas curvas de polarização anódica para se conhecer o potencial de pite do aço 304 em solução de cloreto férrico nas concentrações 13%, 20%, 30% e 40% e temperaturas de 25 °C, 35°C e 50°C. Foram analisadas as imagens das amostras após o ataque com solução de cloreto férrico. Observa-se que quanto maior a concentração da solução corrosiva e a temperatura, maior a densidade e o tamanho dos pites formados nas amostras. Os ensaios realizados mostram que, quanto maior a concentração da solução corrosiva e a temperatura, mais eficiente será o processo de usinagem fotoquímica do aço 304.
