Non-factorizable corrections to W-pair production

Abstract: In this paper we study the non-factorizable QED corrections to W-pair-mediated (charged-current) four-fermion production in electron-positron collisions. A brief account of the obtained analytical results is given. They turn out to be different from the ones published in the literature. For the first time numerical results are presented, in particular the effects on the W line-shape. These effects are of the order of a per cent. Applying the same methods to ZZ- or ZH-mediated four-fermion production, the non-f… Show more

“…In view of the pole structure of the virtual corrections, governed by the infinitesimal imaginary parts io, many of the non-factorizable corrections will vanish when virtual and real-gluon corrections are added up. For instance, all initial-final state interferences will vanish, leaving behind a very limited subset of 'final-state' interferences [10,16]. The following holds for the remaining interferences:…”

“…It is the aim of this paper to perform a detailed comparison of the screened-Coulomb ansatz with the results of the recent calculations [9,10,11]. It appears that this simple prescription provides one with a surprisingly reasonable quantitative understanding of the screening of the non-factorizable terms at higher energies.…”

“…In particular, recently a complete calculation of the non-factorizable corrections to the process (1) has been independently performed by two groups [9,10,11] (see also [4]). The results are in a very good agreement with each other.…”

“…(α denotes the electromagnetic coupling, and s 2 w ≡ sin 2 θ w with θ w the Weinberg angle.) NLO calculations of four-fermion production have been done already some time ago in the continuum (not near threshold) in the double-pole approximation for the two W propagators [4][5][6] or with further simplifications [7,8]. This approximation was supposed to break down for kinematic reasons in the threshold region.…”
