Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamics of Electroosmosis of Liquid Mixtures Studies on Aqueous n-Propanol

Abstract: Electroosmotic transport processes of aqueous n-propanol through a pyrex sintered glass membrane (porosity G 4) are reported. The data are analyzed in the light of non-equilibrium thermodynamics. The concentration dependence of the phenomenological coefficients has been shown to be in conformity with the structural modifications. The efficiencies of electrokinetic energy conversion for both electroosmosis and streaming potential have been evaluated and the results thus obtained have been shown to be consistent… Show more

“…on x is non-linear. Moreover, some investigators [6][7]21] employing systems similar to Srivastava's one, have recently obtained non-linearities in the dependences of L ll3 L 12 and L 21 on the composition. M. L. Srivastava and Lai [22], have shown, on the other hand, that the concentration dependence of L u and L 12 with x must be linear if the interaction amongst the components of the mixture as well as the alteration in the membrane-permeant interaction with changes in the composition were negligible.…”
