Non-ablative radiofrequency associated or not with low-level laser therapy on the treatment of facial wrinkles in adult women: A randomized single-blind clinical trial

Abstract: Nasolabial folds and periorbital wrinkles did not change throughout the study; however, some aesthetic improvement was observed. LLLT did not potentiate RF treatment.

“…Most trials used RF as the only intervention and compared it to baseline photography or untreated split-face. In other studies, RF was compared to laser (n = 8), [25][26][27][28][29][30][31] IPL (n = 1), 29 high-intensity focused ultrasound (n = 1), 11 microfocused ultrasound (n = 2), 32,33 BoNT/A (n = 1), 12 glycolic acid peels (n = 1), 13 LED (n = 1), 5 or facelift (n = 1). 34 These studies were included because they compared RF to baseline, providing information on the efficacy of RF alone.…”

“…Both RF application groups with or without LLLT showed improvements over the control group. However, it should be pointed out that LLLT did not enhance the effect of RF 21 . In another study, the researchers carried out a pilot study comparing the filling of the nasolabial groove with hyaluronic acid with and without the application of RF 22 …”

“…RF devices offer a non‐invasive way to improve wrinkles with little side effects and no downtime. Previous studies about periorbital rhytids, that have been treated by different types of RF devices, have been published . In this study, the VISIA device allowed us to document the minimal changes in periorbital wrinkles, and wrinkle score was calculated with the aid of a computer software that provided us with a 3D photo for close wrinkles observations.…”
