Non-Abelian Josephson Effect between TwoF=2Spinor Bose-Einstein Condensates in Double Optical Traps

Abstract: We investigate the non-Abelian Josephson effect in F=2 spinor Bose-Einstein condensates with double optical traps. We propose a real physical system which contains non-Abelian Josephson effect and has very different density and spin tunneling characters compared with the Abelian case. We calculate the frequencies of the pseudo Goldstone modes in different phases between two traps, respectively, which are the crucial feature of the non-Abelian Josephson effect. We also give an experimental protocol to observe t… Show more

“…The weakly interacting BECs provide a further context [46][47][48] for JEs in superconductor systems because they display a nonlinear generalization of typical d.c. and a.c. JEs and macroscopic quantum selftrapping, all of which have been observed in experiments [49][50][51]. Apart from the conventional single-species BECs [45][46][47][48], the Josephson dynamics of two-species BECs [52] and spinor BECs without SO coupling [53] have also been studied [54][55][56][57]; however, the dynamics of SO coupled BECs is yet to be explored.…”

“…The study of the quantum statistics for an assembly of bosonic or fermionic linear simple-harmonic oscillators can be dated back to 1946 [1], which firstly pointed out that the partition functions familiar in the theory of numbers has to be inevitably invoked. Since 1996, there have been intensive experimental or theoretical studies of the BEC [4,10,12,17]. Within the framework of the microcanonical ensembles, there are also a lot of theoretical investigations for bosons [20] or fermions [13] in a single harmonic trap, but the crossover from quantum to Boltzmann statistics has not been explicitly noticed before.…”
