Nocardiopsis arabia sp. nov., a halotolerant actinomycete isolated from a sand-dune soil

Abstract: The taxonomic status of an unknown actinomycete isolated from a sand-dune soil was established using a polyphasic approach. Isolate S186T had chemotaxonomic and morphological properties consistent with its classification in the genus Nocardiopsis, grew on agar plates at NaCl concentrations of up to 15 % (w/v) and formed a distinct phyletic line in the Nocardiopsis 16S rRNA gene sequence tree. Its closest phylogenetic neighbours were Nocardiopsis chromatogenes, Nocardiopsis composta, Nocardiopsis gilva and Noca… Show more

“…The genus Nocardiopsis was first described by Meyer (1976) and currently comprises 30 recognized species (Meyer 1976;Miyashita et al 1984;Grund and Kroppenstedt 1990;Yassin et al 1993Yassin et al , 1997Al-Tai and Ruan 1994;Chun et al 2000;Evtushenko et al 2000;Peltola et al 2001;Al-Zarban et al 2002;Kämpfer et al 2002;Schippers et al 2002;Li et al 2003Li et al , 2004Li et al , 2006Hozzein et al 2004;Sabry et al 2004;Chen et al 2008Chen et al , 2009Hozzein and Goodfellow 2008;Yang et al 2008;Zhang et al 2008;Yassin et al 2009). The genus Nocardiopsis was shown to exhibit distinct chemotaxonomic characteristics: cell-wall chemotype III/C (meso-diaminopimelic acid and no diagnostic sugars in whole-cell hydrolysates; Lechevalier and Lechevalier 1970), phospholipid type PIII (phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylmethylethanolamine as characteristic phospholipids; Lechevalier et al 1977), menaquinone MK-10 with variable degrees of saturation in the side chain as the predominant isoprenoid quinone (Kroppenstedt 1992), fatty acid type 3d (containing iso-branched, anteiso-branched and 10-methylbranched chain fatty acids; Kroppenstedt 1985) and DNA G ?…”

“…1. With respect to extreme temperatures, some species have been isolated from cold soils (Xu et al 2014), and others have been obtained from desert sand dunes and compost soils, where temperatures are higher (Hozzein and Goodfellow 2008;Yamamura et al 2010;Yan et al 2011). A large plethora of species has been isolated from environments that are rich in salt.…”

“…The genus currently comprises 28 species (Li et al 2004a, b;Chenet al 2008;Yang et al 2008;Zhang et al 2008;Hozzein and Goodfellow 2009). Nocardiopsis strains are frequently isolated from saline and alkaline soils (Hozzein et al 2004;Li et al 2004a, b;Chen et al 2008;Yang et al 2008).…”
