“…The six actinomycete strains were selected on ISP-2 medium after 10 days at 28 uC, mainly based on the results from Verheecke et al (2014): antagonism on contact with A. flavus, reduction of AFs concentration under 17 % versus control and growth on ISP-2 medium (unpublished data). Their 16S rRNA genes were sequenced according to the method described by Zitouni et al (2005). The six strains were identified as Streptomyces roseolus S06, Streptomyces calvus S13, Streptomyces thinghirensis S17, Streptomyces sp.…”

“…Primary screening for antibiotic production was undertaken on International Streptomyces Project 2 (ISP2) medium (g/l: yeast extract, 4; malt extract, 10; glucose, 4 and agar, 16 with pH 7.2) using the cross streaking method (Zitouni et al, 2005). The isolate of actinomycete was inoculated in straight line on a Petri plate containing the ISP2 medium and incubated at 30°C for seven days.…”

“…Ethyl acetate was added to the supernatant in the ration 1:1 (v/v) and shaken vigorously for 2 h at room temperature. The organic solvent was then evaporated to dryness in a vacuum evaporator and the dry residue dissolved in 1 ml of methanol (Zitouni et al, 2005). The extraction from solid medium was done as follows: A dish of 9 cm in diameter containing ISP2 medium was streaked by actinomycete isolate and incubated at 30°C for 3 weeks.…”

“…Therefore, the isolation of novel species of this genus from different extreme environments should provide access to new bioactive products with significant therapeutic potential and contribute to an understanding of their ecological roles. Actinobacteria diversity and their biological activities are also a prospective field of research in the Saharan soils of Algeria as several new taxa of this phylum have been reported from these soils (Bouras et al, 2014) and a significant number of antibiotic patents have recently been registered (Lamari et al, 2002a, b;Zitouni et al, 2004Zitouni et al, , 2005Badji et al, 2006Badji et al, , 2007Bouras et al, 2008;Merrouche et al, 2010;Boubetra et al, 2012) including those produced by Streptosporangium strains (Hacene et al, 1998;Boudjella et al, 2006Boudjella et al, , 2007Boudjella et al, , 2010. In the same context, a novel actinobacterium, with both antibacterial and antifungal activities, designated strain SG1 T , was isolated from a Saharan soil sample collected from Beni-Abbes, Bechar (Saoura region, south-west Algeria).…”
