“…An expansion of tall and dense grasslands as well as shrublands was observed (Isermann and Cordes 1992), mainly because of atmospheric deposition of acidifiers and nutrients, especially nitrogen caused the change from lichen-rich to Carex arenaria dominated grasslands (Ten Harkel and Van der Meulen 1996;Remke et al 2009). Perennial grasses such as Ammophila arenaria, Avenella flexuosa, Calamagrostis epigejos and Carex arenaria have become dominant in dry dune grasslands since the 1970s (Ten Harkel et al 1998). The expansion of tall vegetation especially of shrubs has reduced the speciesrichness by shading (Isermann et al 2007).…”
