“…Tasks requiring muscular strength and endurance, speed, power, balance and coordination in gross movement tasks have not been systematically evaluated relative to blood lead levels, with few exceptions. Gross balance at 6 years of age (Dietrich et al 1993) and performance on rail balance tests at 8-10 years of age (Azcona-Cruz et al 2000) were not influenced by blood lead levels, while blood lead level was negatively associated with teacher ratings of agility, '. .…”

“…The results generally contrast those for physical fitness. For example, blood lead level exerted a negative influence on visual-motor control, bilateral coordination, upper limb speed of movement, upper limb dexterity and fine motor coordination (Dietrich et al 1993) and on finger tapping speed (Winneke et al 1994) in 6-year-old children, and on visual-motor integration, eye-hand coordination and spatial relations in 8-10-year-old children (Azcona-Cruz et al 2000). Elevated childhood dentin lead levels in deciduous teeth were also associated with long term deficits manifest in reduced finger tapping, poorer eye-hand coordination and slower RT at 18 years of age (Needleman et al 1990).…”

“…Main sources for lead in soil and dust include house paint, industrial emissions, and para-occupational exposure [3,4]. In Mexico, use of lead oxide-glazed ceramic ware for food preparation and storage has been an important source of lead ingestion [4,5]. Tailings of open air-deposited mining wastes also add lead to soil, household dust, and water supplies in the area.…”

“…Intoxicación por plomo en niños indígenas Artículo breve L os efectos tóxicos de la exposición a plomo en los niños, desde la gestación 1 hasta la infancia, [2][3][4][5][6][7] han sido un problema de salud pública ampliamente estudiado. 8,9 A pesar de la eliminación del plomo de las gasolinas en 1997, la población mexicana continúa expuesta a este problema por el uso de loza de barro vidriada (LBV).…”
