ABSTRACT:The production capacity of green and dry mass of the entire plant, efficiency of N conversion, apparent N recovery and the chemical composition of cultivar Mulato II was evaluated under a system of cuts and nitrogen doses. The assay, conducted in the municipality of Goiânia, GO, Brazil, had a totally randomized 2 x 4 factorial design (2 height cuts, 0.40 and 0.50 m and 4 nitrogen doses), with three replications and subdivided subplots. Treatments comprised four N doses (0, 50, 100 and 150 kgha -1 N, with urea as nitrogen source). There was no significant interaction (p>0.05) between N doses and cut heights for the variables productivity of green (PGM) and dry (PDM) mass, nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) and apparent N recovery (ANR), which were neither affected (p<0.05) by N doses nor by evaluated cut heights. Average productivity reached 59,450 kgha -1 (PGV) and 10,367 kgha -1 (PDM) and it was produced an average of 19.62 kg of DM per kg of N, with a mean 56.00% recovery. N doses and cut heights did not affect (p>0.05) DM rates of the plant, whilst mean dry matter rate was 17.49%. CP rates were affected (p<0.05) by N doses (0, 50, 100 and 150 kgha -1 ) and cut heights (0.40 and 0.50 m) and by the interaction of these factors. CP rates of the entire plant hybrid Brachiaria cv. Mulato II increased (p<0.05) due to N doses through an increasing linear relationship. Since there was a significant effect (p<0.05) with regard to cut height and CP rates decreased with height increase. NDF rates were significantly influenced by N doses (p<0.05) and by cut heights (p<0.05), with significance for the interaction (p<0.05) of over 100 kgha -1 N doses only. No significant interaction (p>0.05) occurred in ADF rates among the variables analyzed. ADF contents were influenced by N supply (p<0.05) with decreasing quadratic regression as N doses increased.

-The objective of this study was to assess the effect of applying N and K 2 O at different times after harvest on the structure and production characteristics of Marandu and Xaraés cultivars of Brachiaria brizantha. Two greenhouse 4 × 2 factorial experiments using a randomized block design with eight treatments and four replicates were carried out. In experiment 1, the plants in pots were fertilized weekly with 50 mg/dm 3 of N and K 2 O until a week before a uniformity cut, for a total of four applications. After cutting, plants were fertilized with 50 mg/dm 3 of N and K 2 O at 0, 3, 6, and 9 days. Cultivars were evaluated after 44 days of regrowth. In experiment 2, a single 50 mg/dm 3 dose of N and K 2 O was applied a week before the uniformity cut, and 100 mg/dm 3 of N and K 2 O were applied at 0, 4, 8, and 12 days after cutting; cultivars were evaluated after 39 days of regrowth. In experiment 1, the leaf/stem ratio and dry matter yield were influenced by the time at which fertilizers were applied. In the second experiment, the total number of leaves, expanded leaves, dead leaves, and the leaf lamina accumulated length and dry matter production were influenced by the time at which fertilizers were applied. Marandugrass had more leaves and tillers than cv. Xaraés, which, in turn, had greater height, dry matter yield and regrowth vigor. Applying nitrogen and potassium fertilizer immediately after cutting improves the structural characteristics, while the dry matter yield is maximized by applying fertilizers immediately after cutting by using lower doses of N, or at 4.5 days after cutting by using higher doses of N.

Nitrogen is an essential nutrient that plants generally require in large amounts. Knowing the nitrogen dose that stimulates primary and secondary metabolic pathways is important for the management of nitrogen fertilisation in plants in general; however, this information is still unavailable for seedlings of the cerrado cashew tree. Based on the hypothesis that the availability of nitrogen for Anacardium othonianum Rizz. seedlings can affect can affect the development of anatomical structures, as well as the synthesis of secondary metabolism compounds in leaves, an experiment was conducted to determine the qualitative and quantitative anatomy this tissue collected from plants of this species subjected to N doses of 0, 2.5, 5.0, 7.5, 10.0, 12.5, and 15.0 mmol L−1 in nutrient solution and evaluated the effect at 30 and 90 days after transplanting (DAT). The largest leaf morphoanatomical changes were observed under the doses of 0 and 15.0 mmol L−1 of N. The lowest stomatal density being observed in the plants exposed to an N dose of 15 mmol L−1. The level of flavonoids was not influenced by the availability of N in the solution; however, the absence of nitrogen directly affected the accumulation of phenolic compounds, alkaloids and polysaccharides present in the leaves, whereas the doses of 7.5, 10.0 and 12.5 mmol L−1 were essential to stimulate the presence of this latter compound in cerrado-cashew-tree seedlings maintained in nutrient solution. Regarding the epochs of evaluation, effect was observed only for the thickness of the adaxial epidermis. These data confirm the hypothesis that the leaf anatomy as well as the accumulation of secondary metabolism compounds in leaves of A. ohonianum can be modified because of the availability of N to the plant.
