Nitrogen doped graphite felt decorated with porous Ni1.4Co1.6S4 nanosheets for 3D pseudocapacitor electrodes

Abstract: High performance 3D pseudocapacitor electrodes consisting of a nitrogen doped graphite felt (NGF) substrate and porous Ni1.4Co1.6S4 nanosheets has been successfully prepared via a facile hydrothermal reaction.

“…For ternary or quaternary semiconductors, the stoichiometric ratio of their elements is usually adjustable, which also plays an important role in their properties and device performance. 33,34 A variety of studies have been performed to investigate this stoichiometric effect on NCSs, and various NCSs with different element stoichiometry have been prepared, such as NiCo 2 S 4 , 19,35 CoNi 2 S 4 , 36,37 Ni 1.4 Co 1.6 S 4 , 38 Ni 1.5 Co 1.5 S 4 , 39 (Co 0.5 Ni 0.5 ) 9 S 8 , 40 (Ni 0.33 Co 0.67 ) 9 S 8 , 41 Ni 1.77 Co 1.23 S 4 , 42 Ni 4.5 Co 4.5 S 8 , 43 Ni 0.67 Co 0.33 S, 44 etc. The comparison of the relative performance of NCSs with different element stoichiometry has also been discussed in depth (Fig.…”

“…Although transition metal oxides and transition metal hydroxides have been widely used as supercapacitor electrode materials, the relatively lower conductivity impeded the application of these materials . In order to overcome the drawbacks of these materials, some other materials with higher conductivity were introduced to these materials to form composites . Graphene and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) are two‐dimensional (2D) carbon materials with high surface area and excellent electrical conductivity, and has been in depth studied for supercapacitor applications .…”

“…The cobalt-to-selenium atomic ratio is measured to be 0.83 based on the EDX content analysis (Figure S6), which approximates the stoichiometric composition of Co 0.85 Se. Meanwhile, the nitrogen content of CS-2/NPC-5 is found to be as high as 8.54 atom % (5.08 wt %), which is much higher than some of the reported metal/N-doped carbon composites. , Such a high N-doping level can be favorable for improving electron transfer, suppressing Li + cluster formation, strengthening Li + adsorption, and enhancing wettability …”
