Gentrification, the process of transforming a neighbourhood with social class upgrading and landscape change, has undoubtedly impacted existing residents. Although massive amounts of research have analysed gentrification‐induced displacement, there is comparatively much less research about the residents' experiences after being displaced. Therefore, this paper seeks to fill this gap through empirical research on the subjective experiences of displaced residents from Xuanwumen, Beijing. The study finds that those displaced residents suffered serious negative effects in terms of their quality of life and emotional well‐being. Furthermore, despite the resettlement housing being of higher quality, long‐term negative impacts on the local groups have emerged as time passes. By revealing the post‐gentrification experience of those displaced, this study provides a better understanding of the consequences and integral logic of the process of gentrification.
