Next-to-leading order analysis of target mass corrections to structure functions and asymmetries

Abstract: We perform a comprehensive analysis of target mass corrections (TMCs) to spin-averaged structure functions and asymmetries at next-to-leading order. Several different prescriptions for TMCs are considered, including the operator product expansion, and various approximations to it, collinear factorization, and ξ-scaling. We assess the impact of each of these on a number of observables, such as the neutron to proton F 2 structure function ratio, and parity-violating electron scattering asymmetries for protons an… Show more

“…represents the leading-twist structure function, and a fitted coefficient, C(x) = αx β (1 + γx), parametrizes the power-suppressed twist-4 corrections. On the other hand, targetmass corrections of O(M 2 N /Q 2 ) are due to the non-negligible mass, M N , of the struck nucleon, and are implemented via the operator product expansion of Georgi and Politzer [58,59] or related prescriptions, as extensively reviewed in [60,61]. Both corrections are natively implemented in the CJ framework.…”

“…A number of these structure-function level prescriptions have been computed and reviewed in Refs. [39,40]. For example, there can be substantial variation in F L , depending upon the specific prescription.…”

“…In inclusive electronproton scattering, the transition from the low-energy resonance region to the high-energy regime (i.e. DIS) offers broad grounds for exploration [489,491,[497][498][499][500][501][502][503][504]. Leading twist approximations 6 are found to be accurate at describing the region of invariant masses W above the resonances, at sufficiently large photon virtualities, Q 2 1-2 GeV 2 .…”
