Newer Constituents of Derris Indica Stem

Abstract: Two new compounds, 5,7-dihydroxy-6-methyl-4′-methoxyisoflavone (6-methylbiochanin A) (1) and cis-3,5diphenylpiperidine-2,6-dione (2) were isolated from the young stems of Derris indica along with desmethoxykanugin (3), 3′, 5′-dimethoxy-(2′′, 3′′: 7, 8)furanoflavone (4) and 7,4′-dimethyldaidzein (5). The structures of these compounds were determined by means of chemical and spectral studies.

“…44 An uncommon C-methylated isoavone (12) characterised as the 6-C-methyl derivative of biochanin A (5,7dihydroxy-4 0 -methoxyisoavone) has been obtained from MeOH extracts of the young stems of Millettia pinnata (published under the synonym Derris indica). 45 Djiogue and colleagues have examined the isoavonoids present in stem bark extracts of a Bolivian collection of Erythrina poeppigiania, noting that previous studies were concerned mainly with Asian collections of this pantropical species. 46 Compared with the latter, the Bolivian material was richer in isoavone 7-methyl ethers, including 13, a 3 0 -formyl derivative of genistein 7-methyl ether (5,4 0 -dihydroxy-7-methoxy-isoavone), and several prenylated examples (see 41-44).…”

“…Previous phytochemical investigation of D. indica showed a wide diversity of flavonoid metabolites, including chalcones, furanoflavonoids and pyranoflavonoids [5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13]. In the present work, we report the isolation and characterization of a novel compound from the ethanolic extract of the root bark, characterized as 1-[2,4dihydroxy-5-(3-methylbut-2-enyl)phenyl]ethanone (1), together with three rare flavones, 3,7,-dimethoxy-3',4'-methylenedioxyflavone (desmethoxykanugin) (2), 5-methoxyfurano[4",5":6,7]flavone (pinnatin) (3), and 3'-hydroxyfurano[4",5":7,8]-flavone (pongol) (4).…”
